Easing off the gas pedal

Day 12, Camp Nanowrimo. It has just dawned on me that I am very close to hitting the middle of this novel. I have been speeding down this writing highway and I have to remember to ease off the gas every once in awhile and enjoy the ride.

I wrote out a scene today in painstaking poetic detail. Instead of rushing through the events using the words of my characters I tried to let their actions dictate the significance of the moment. And no, it wasn’t a sex scene! I wrote the scene where my MCs finally accepted their quest. I didn’t even know that was going to happen when I started it, but it did. And I’m cool with that.

Now tomorrow I have to figure out what those drums are that they hear in the forest.

If you feel like your story is going too fast, try taking out some of the dialogue. Worked for me this time around.
